In the book Leading At School, you can learn about numerous topics like how to be a leader in a school group or project, what to do when something goes wrong, deciding what’s the right thing to do, and much more.  What I found quite satisfying was that Maxwell says that anyone can become a leader and it doesn’t matter how young, brave, or cool you are. And it’s so very true. Think about all the young people throughout history like David from the Bible, Joan of Arc, and Anne Frank. So everyone has something to offer even though you might think only a few people can lead.

You could start by “improving your little corner” as Mr. Maxwell says. Don’t feel like you can?  Well, think of how you will grow from the experience. If you do this you will build your character. You will make yourself stronger and obtain new skills. And best of all, you will make yourself a more interesting person! Remember, leaders always build and improve themselves!

If you choose to become a leader, you may feel like you need to go and make everything right in the world, which is actually, not being a leader, but being a dictator or critic. This is not the elements of a leader.  So please don’t do that. The thing you should focus on is what kind of influence are you going to be? What effect are you going to have on people?

So you’re kind of starting to get used to the idea of leadership and you sort of like it. Everything is great. Well, if you want those good things to happen you’ve got to be the real you. You have to have integrity which is a big ingredient of leadership.  If you become a person of integrity, people will trust your word which will make them feel more comfortable with you.  So basically you have to have honor. As Maxwell says “Honor is the sword and shield that will let you stand tall – and make the tough choices.” Honor is being true to yourself; it’s real. Honor helps you to do what you should even when you don’t want to. If you become a honorable person, you too will become real.

All in all, this book has really helped me to become a leader at school. It has given me examples in daily life situations so that I could use that same principle in my own life. I think if you want to do good and develop leadership, I think this is a great way to start your journey to becoming a leader.
